Flexible requirements when it comes to short wood haulage prompted the Stackelitz Group to place an order for a semi-trailer tractor mounted with a central trailer section that had been equipped with an EPSILON Q150Z 82 crane. This means that both the felled trunks and the equipment required for off-road forestry work can now be transported using the same semi-trailer tractor.

Central crane concept delivers maximum flexibility

"The Stackelitz Group sees itself as a full service provider in the green sector. This is because we often find ourselves taking our harvesters and forwarders with a low-loading semi-trailer to an area and taking our logs away again using the same semi-trailer tractor," explains material planner Sebastian Lofing. "In the surrounding area, we also have a lot of hardwood with lengths ranging from 2.4 to 5 metres. Having the crane positioned at the end of the semi-trailer tractor would not be very practical with these lengths. But having it mounted in a central position means the tractor is in an optimum position for loading – as is accustomed with conventional trailer combinations."

The Stackelitz Group has been operating in the forestry services sector – alongside forest plant production – since back in 1994. For a great many years, the company has sworn by the high-quality forestry cranes manufactured by PALFINGER EPSILON.

Sensitive controls and low maintenance requirements – the clear advantages of PALFINGER EPSILON

"We have been using a standard trailer combination with an EPSILON M120Z crane for a number of years. Since our drivers remain completely satisfied with the user-friendliness and the sensitivity of the controls, it was clear when making a new purchase that we should definitely opt for another piece of equipment from the Salzburg-based manufacturer. What's more, the maintenance requirements for EPSILON cranes are traditionally very low, which allows me as a material planner to achieve better scheduling and thereby gain more operating hours," says Lofing. But because the order books contain large amounts of heavy hardwood up to 1 m in diameter going forward, the traditional EPSILON M-series crane no longer fits the bill. So this time Stackelitz opted for its big brother, the EPSILON Q150Z 82, with a lifting capacity of up to 142 kNm.

Stackelitz and BEFA – a well-established partnership

The green mixed service provider from Coswig (Saxony Anhalt) selected local company Belzinger Fahrzeugbau as its installation partner. Thanks to its many years of experience, the company has the technical expertise to satisfy even the most unusual customer requirements quickly and to the best-possible quality. "BEFA simply produces robust equipment that impresses. We have been working with the Bad Belzig-based vehicle manufacturer for around 10 years now and the high quality that was delivered right from the start has only got better over the years," explains Mr Lofing. "Over the years, we have placed orders for various equipment with the company including two crane-mounted semi-trailer tractors, several lorry-trailer combinations and a few traditional semi-trailer tractors, all of which have lasted for years, which is what we were promised. Furthermore, BEFA service staff are quick to respond in the event of an incident and offer assistance wherever they can."
