EPSILON’s customer service manager works the chipper
The whole family participates when Georg Steindl gets called to the chipper.
Because the manager of EPSILON’s customer service has been more than just a reliable contact person for customer service requests from all over the world for the last ten years. On the side, he also manages a small traditional agriculture business with a forest area. This means that one can often see EPSILON cranes used for timber applications even in Steindl’s private environment. “For me it’s always a great opportunity to experience our products in practical use and receive feedback from our customers first hand,” Steindl says.
This time Joachim Putz has visited Steindl with his mobile wood chipping system. Joachim and his brother Günther have been working in the biomass field since 1996. The brothers currently operate not just three trucks for wood chip transport and a mobile debarking machine, but also two wood chippers which are both equipped with EPSILON timber cranes.
“I have been working with timber cranes for more than 20 years and have tried quite a few crane manufacturers during that time. Above all, the advantages of EPSILON are the low maintenance costs and few downtimes. Formerly, we used to get stuck in deep branches with the hydraulic hoses, which was often connected with lengthy hose replacements. Since the Salzburg company has developed the interior hose routing and launched it on the market, we practically no longer have any more torn hoses,” Joachim Putz reports. The control of the crane is also “just cool to operate,” Joachim says. “The crane responds very directly and precisely. This means I can work quickly and exactly even with heavy or bulky wood or in a constricted environment.
Joachim immediately shows the proof. The crane operator skillfully fishes the chipping materials from beneath the low branches and chops it up rapidly with the Jenz 582 Chipper. In only 30 minutes, the 60 m3 materials have not just been processed but also transported away into the storage spaces of the company’s own chipping system.
At this work speed, there is enough time left to also give the next generation a better sense of the passion for working with timber. Georg Steindl’s son Florian is already following each movement by the crane operator with great enthusiasm until, in the end, the junior may briefly take over the truck’s steering wheel on his own. For now, the ignition is still switched off, but the interest has obviously started up already...
