Between 29 August and 1 September 2018, Klagenfurt became the wood capital of Europe. The International Wood Fair celebrated its 55th anniversary in Carinthia, giving over five hundred exhibitors from 21 nations the chance to showcase their products and innovations in an exhibition space spanning 30,000 square metres. The topics on the agenda, which captured the attention of 20,000 trade visitors from Austria and abroad, included the forestry industry, sawmill technology, bio energy, wood construction techniques and the needs of the carpentry and joinery trades.

PALFINGER EPSILON was one of many national and international manufacturers represented at the fair, with a number of its products exhibited by Kuhn Ladetechnik. The products on show included the fully functional Smart Control prototype, the new EPSILON boom tip controller and the new Q-series from the Next Epsolution range, a reach of 11 metres – the longest in its class.
At the International Wood Fair in Klagenfurt, as at Interforst in Munich earlier this year, Smart Control was the real crowd-pleaser at the fair. The reasons are self-explanatory in that the boom tip controller makes crane operation easier, more intuitive and faster than ever. Now, thanks to the electronic assistance system, the crane operator can concentrate exclusively on the boom tip, and does not have to control every cylinder individually as before. This makes crane work much more efficient and also prevents operators from tiring prematurely. Not only this, but since operation is so intuitive, it is also much simpler to train budding crane operators as well. Impressed by the Smart Control technology, a young woman from Salzburg jumped at the chance to try out the boom tip controller under the guidance of Tobias Lechner (PALFINGER EPSILON, customer service and technical support). 'I had my doubts to start off with about how it would work, but to my surprise, operating the crane was really straightforward and a lot of fun! If anybody needs a crane operator, I'm available!', joked the 23-year-old.

Traditional themes such as 'steel construction and hydraulics' were also covered with a large range of EPSILON models on display on the Kuhn Ladetechnik stand. Nine trade fair cranes showed visitors the diverse spectrum of products available in the Epsolution and Next Epsolution ranges. The different control modes – ranging from cabin cranes and Classic Drive up to Master Drive – were also on display.
Nonetheless, it was the new Q17Z that was the star attraction among the on-road cranes on show at the fair. At as much as 10% lighter and 15% faster than its predecessor, the new Q17Z impressed customers and dealers alike.
'Not only does it weigh less and offer more speed, but we shouldn't neglect to mention its range of up to 11 metres, too. These three factors are unbeatable sales arguments in favour of the new on-road crane.  The internal hose guide also ensures easy handling and reduces the risk of the hoses being damaged during everyday operation,' said Michael Kurzmann, manager of Kuhn Ladetechnik's Pernegg branch.

The team comprising employees from Kuhn Ladetechnik and PALFINGER EPSILON was unremitting and full of energy over the course of the trade fair in Klagenfurt, capturing the attention of visitors with both the latest and tried-and-true products from PALFINGER EPSILON.
In keeping with the motto of 'no sooner has one trade fair ended than another one starts', the EPSILON team is not resting on its laurels but is already beavering away at new solutions, ready to present a new range of innovative products to trade fair visitors at the 2020 International Wood Fair.
